The magician has appeared on the ITV show 12 times, after appearing for the first time in 2008.

BGT shared the news via its Twitter account, saying: “We are deeply saddened to hear the news of the passing of David J. Watson. David was a much-loved part of BGT, bringing fun and heart to the show year after year. We extend our condolences to all of his friends and family.

Ant and Dec added: “I am sorry to hear that. We looked forward to seeing David each year and enjoying what he would create for us. All of us at #BGT he will miss him. Our hearts go out to his friends and family.

Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden took to Instagram to share her tribute to the candidate.

She wrote: “So sad to hear that David Watson has passed away. He was always ready to laugh and play such a great sport on BGT. We will miss him.

News of David Watson’s death appeared in The Sun this morning (December 14).

Watson first appeared on Britain’s Got Talent in 2008 as an Impressionist. He impersonated Tony Blair, William Hague and David Blunkett, unfortunately not having reached the second round.

He returned two years later in season four, this time donning his wizarding hat. He then appeared in all series until season 14 – the most recent – in 2020.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News in August 2021, Watson said: “My very first audition was in 2007, but I never made it. A lot of people think that your first time on TV is your first. audition, but you must pass another audition before you can even appear before the judges.

He continued, “I love being on the show. Being on TV is great because I’m recognized at Trafford Center and people ask me for a selfie – I feel very honored about that.

“Ant and Dec are always happy to see me again and I got on really well with Stephen Mulhern before they stopped doing Britain’s Got More Talent.”
