HOUSTON – Gallery Auctions Inc. is hosting an auction on Saturday showcasing Lonnie Frankel’s 40-year-old private collection of Frankel’s Costume Company, Houston’s largest costume and magic store that closed in 2018. The sale auction takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 13310 Luthe Road in Houston.
Practitioners and collectors of magical crafts can bid on massive inventory, which includes more than 1,000 magic tricks, illusions and props, including a getaway tube, Brooster the Rooster, a giant Clever Ace trick, a comedy balloon effect and a mini guillotine, according to a press release.
“I believe this is the largest offering of authentic magical crafts, props and illusions ever auctioned in the history of magic,” said Vikki Vines, owner and curator. – Auctioneer of Gallery Auctions.
In addition to Frankel’s collection, the auction will feature over 2,000 retail pieces of contemporary magic and a wide selection of makeup and wigs for theater and stage, valued at over 200,000. $, according to Gallery Auctions.
Frankel’s Costume Co. opened in 1950 as a magic store in downtown Houston. After a few moves over the years, the business has grown to include a costume store offering custom designs and a large inventory of over 57,000 rental costumes, depending on the version.
According to the statement, the store has become the largest store for magic, stage makeup, clowning supplies and theater supplies in the South.
“This is an amazing opportunity to purchase rare and vintage magical trade pieces at auction prices,” said Vines.
Gallery Auctions was founded in 1984 by Vines. Auctions take place every Monday at 9 a.m.
